Frank Lampard Confirmed as Chelsea Coach
Chelsea have announced the appointment of former midfielder, Frank Lampard, as its new manager on a deal that will run until 2022.
The appointment comes after his predecessor, Maurizio Sarri, vacated the position in June to take over the reins of Italian giants, Juventus.
Lampard – who served as coach of Derby County prior to his appointment – made 648 appearances for Chelsea between 2001 and 2014. He helped them win 11 major championships, including three Premier League titles and two European trophies.
In a statement posted on their website today, Thursday 4 July, the Blues’ club director, Marina Granovskaia, confirmed that the 41-year-old Englishman would take over the role.
She said: “After 13 years with us as a player, where he became a club legend and our record goalscorer, we believe this is the perfect time for [Lampard] to return and are delighted he has done so.”
Chelsea’s first match with Lampard at the helm will be against Manchester United on Sunday, 11 August.
