Frank Lampard Announces Retirement
Chelsea’s all-time most successful goal scorer, and English international, Frank Lampard, has announced that he will be hanging up his boots and retiring from both club and international soccer.
Lampard most recently played for New York City FC in America, and before that had a season-long stint at Manchester City.
However, Lampard’s biggest success was at Chelsea – a club he played for for 13 years and still holds the record as the all-time leading goalscorer at the club.
He was also an integral part of the English national football team, making his international debut in 1999.
The 38-year-old has not yet said what he plans on doing now that he is retiring from football. He made the announcement of his retirement on his official Facebook account.
“After 21 incredible years I have decided that now is the right time to finish my career as a professional footballer…I’m immensely proud of the trophies I’ve won, of representing my country over 100 times and of scoring more than 300 career goals,” he wrote in his post.
He continued, thanking a lot of people and especially Chelsea, where he says his heart will be forever.
“Of course, the largest part of my heart belongs to Chelsea Football Club, a club which has given me so many great memories…I will never forget the opportunity they gave me and the success that we managed to achieve together. It is impossible to give thanks individually to all the people that helped and supported me in my 13 years playing there,” he said.
