France On Terror Alert Ahead of Euros

June 08, 2016

With the European Championship set to kick off on Friday, France has received various warnings over potential terrorist attacks during the time of the championship.

The country has been on high alert ever since the terror attacks that rocked the country in November of last year. France is also still under a state of emergency following the attacks of November that left 130 people dead.

They have also increased security and have put the entire country on high alert as they await around two million foreign people to travel to the country for the Euros.

The UK also warned its people, traveling to France for the tournament, that it is very possible fans will be targeted at the tournament.

In addition to amping up security around the country, the French government has also announced that they are planning on launching an app for smartphones that would warn users of “any major crisis” during the championship.

The UK Foreign Office warned that terror attacks could likely happen in ‘fan-dense’ areas:

“…During Euro 2016, stadiums, fan zones, venues broadcasting the tournament and transport hubs and links represent potential targets for terrorist attacks,” they said.

The United States has also concurred with the UK and French officials and alerting people attending the tournament to possible terror attacks.

France has said that they have added an additional 90 000 security personnel to guard the Euro Championship.

In the country’s capital of Paris, more than 3000 police officers have been added to the already existing 10 000 officers for the capital.
