Four People Rescued from Kenya Building Collapse
An apartment building that collapsed in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi a week ago, has caused a lot of devastation for the people affected.
Now, however, there seems to be somewhat of a light at the end of the tunnel, as four people were rescued from the rubble yesterday, after being trapped underneath the collapsed building for an astonishing six days.
Kenyan news reports that there were cheers and prayers said aloud as the rescue workers managed to pull the four people from the rubble.
The first person to be pulled from the rubble was a woman, who was slowly carried on a stretcher to the awaiting ambulance.
A few hours later, rescue workers also managed to pull two more women from the collapsed building, as well as a man.
Perhaps the biggest miracle of the rescue operation happened on Monday, when a baby girl was found alive amongst the rubble; having survived somehow for more than 3 days.
The collapse of the six-story building has also caused massive panic in the area, as it is believed the building collapsed due to the heavy rains that hit Nairobi over the past week, causing massive landslides and flooding across the capital.
Officials have said that the death toll is currently standing at 33 casualties, but that there are still approximately 80 people missing.
