Former Zifa Members In Court For Theft

January 26, 2016

Three prominent former members of Zimbabwe’s Women’s Football have been taken to court over allegedly stealing upwards of $20 000 from Zifa.

The three members, which include a chairperson and two board members, appeared in a Harare magistrate’s court on Monday, before magistrate Tendai Mahwe.

They were charged with theft of trust property after it is alleged that they stole $20 000 from Zifa that was meant to fund the national women’s side trip for a match in Ghana.

The women were names as Miriam Sibanda, 54, Benny Mamoche, 45, and Fungai Magoswongwe, 35.

They were released on $100 bail each. As an annexe to their bail conditions, they were ordered to stay at their current addresses and to not make any contact with state witnesses.

Prosecutor Sebastin Mutizirwa said that the three women were tasked with finding donations for the national side to make the trip to Ghana. However, instead of giving the money over to the Zifa accountants, they instead kept the money and split it between themselves.

It is believed that they secured a donation of $20 000 from Freda Rebecca Mine.

Their case has been postponed until the 29th of February.
