Former England Star Released by LA Galaxy
Former England left-back, Ashley Cole, has been released by LA Galaxy, the club confirmed on Monday.
The 37-year-old – who also played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Roma – won 107 caps for England between 2001 and 2014, making him the sixth most-capped English international of all-time.
In January 2016, Cole joined LA Galaxy, and scored three goals in 83 appearances for the Major League Soccer outfit.
In March this year, Cole was appointed as captain of the team ahead of the 2018 season, two months after signing a one-year contract extension. He was also named ‘Player of the Year’ by the club’s supporters in November.
However, as per a statement posted on their website, LA Galaxy opted not to re-sign the defender as part of its year-end roster moves.
In addition, seven other players – including defender Michael Ciani, goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre, and midfielder Servando Carrasco among others – have been released by the club.
