Former England Football Star Joe Cole Hangs Up Boots
Former England and Chelsea midfielder, Joe Cole, announced his retirement from professional football.
Cole – who celebrated his 37th birthday last week – confirmed the news on Tuesday, 13 November, via a statement.
He said: “After 20 years as a professional, the time has come for me to hang up my boots. It has been a dream come true … Whatever is next, I hope the next two decades are as special as my last 20 years as a professional have been.”
He added: “Looking to the future, I want to stay involved in the game. I feel I can offer a lot as a coach.”
Cole began his career at West Ham at the age of eight. In 2003, he earned himself a move to Chelsea, with whom he won three Premier League titles.
The midfielder went on to play with five other clubs – including Liverpool and Aston Villa – and he represented England in three different World Cups. His final club was Tampa Bay Rowdies in the US-based United Soccer League.
