Florian Wirtz Finding Feet in EPL

September 11, 2025

Florian Wirtz has recently admitted that he is still adapting to life in England after a quiet start to his English Premier League (EPL) career.

Liverpool signed the 22-year-old German midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen for a record £116 million in June, but the club – and its fans – have yet to see their new player shine, despite recent wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal.

The pressure intensified during the international break when Wirtz came under fire in Germany’s 2-0 defeat to Slovakia last Thursday, 4 September. He responded in style three days later, scoring a stunning free-kick in a 3-1 victory against Northern Ireland during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

While talking to a sports outlet on Monday, 8 September, he said: “[The EPL is] another league, another type of football. I’m happy to be there. I have no idea when I’ll score my first goal, hopefully in the next game, but it will come at some point.”

He will hope to replicate that form when Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend, as he continues the hunt for his first goal in English football.
