Floods Wreak Havoc In Mali
Mali has been hit hard by torrential rains over the past month that has caused severe flooding throughout the country.
Yesterday, the government announced that the floods have caused severe damage to various parts of the country and that more lives have been lost because of the floods.
According to the government, the total number of lives lost due to the floods has now risen to 14.
The first flooding started in the country on July 12th and has been troublesome ever since.
Seydou Doumbia, of the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection confirmed the deaths in an official statement:
“…the total number of deaths has risen to 14…The waters have caused a lot of damage – whole houses have been washed away,” he said.
He also said that there were currently two people missing who are believed to have been swept away by the floods.
Poor construction of houses and other buildings are attributed to the loss of lives, as these buildings are not strong enough to withstand flooding.
