‘Fifty Shades’ fires up SA box office
Erotic romance film Fifty Shades of Grey truly lived up to its hype as the film hit number one with a bang. According to the film’s distributor UIP, Fifty Shades had the "highest opening weekend takings of all films released in South Africa" as it grossed a whopping R14 129 150 in its first four days of release.

The controversial film follows Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) who falls for the enigmatic Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan) who introduces her to BDSM.
Debuting at number three is spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service – a Bond-styled film for young adults which combines action, espionage, comedy, strong language and violence into one cinematic piece.
The film stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine and newcomer Taron Egerton and was directed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass).

Last week’s number one The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water descends to number two while The Wedding Ringer and Mooirivier both stay put at numbers 4 and 5 respectively.
The oldest film in the top ten is once again Taken 3 which is now sitting at number seven with a total gross of R17,889,794.
