Fernandes’ Hat-Trick Powers Man United to 5-2 Victory

August 31, 2026

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United came from behind to beat Ipswich Town 5-2 on Sunday, 30 August, securing their first win of the English Premier League (EPL) season.

Playing at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, visitors Ipswich took an early lead through Leif Davis in the 29th minute after Julio Enciso and Daizen Maeda threatened United’s defence.

However, Fernandes equalised 11 minutes later after a costly slip by Marcelino Núñez, turning the game in the hosts’ favour.

In the second half, United’s attack intensified: a contentious own goal from Ipswich’s Jacob Greaves in the 56th minute – as well as Fernandes’ converted penalty and close-range goal between the 61st and 68th minutes – put United ahead 4-1.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder then assisted Bryan Mbeumo for a late lob. Ipswich scored a late consolation through Chuba Akpom, but it was too little too late as the Red Devils sealed a 5-2 victory.

As a result, Manchester United occupy tenth place in the EPL rankings with three points; Ipswich Town sit in 12th place, also with three points.
