FA Wants Answers over Manchester Derby Fight
The Football Association (FA) has launched an investigation into the altercation that took place after the Manchester Derby this weekend.
According to reports, a huge argument broke out after Manchester United scorned Manchester City for celebrating excessively after defeating the Red Devils 2-1.
The row started after Manchester United’s coach, Jose Mourinho, went to City’s dressing room at Old Trafford.
He asked them to show some respect, to keep their music down, and to curb their celebrations at United’s home ground.
Ederson, City’s Brazilian goalkeeper, responded angrily to Mourinho, and the pair shouted insults at each other in Portuguese.
As the fight escalated, a milk carton was thrown at Mourinho’s head, splattering a nearby colleague, and more players joined the argument.
Manchester City’s assistant coach, Mikel Arteta, suffered a cut above his eyebrow and left Old Trafford with blood streaming down his face.
Referee Michael Oliver was not aware of the incident and did not mention it in his match report. Mourinho also did not mention the fight in his post-match interviews.
Despite this, the FA has reacted to media reports about the fracas.
“The FA have sought observations from both clubs in relation to an incident which occurred following yesterday’s game,” they said on Monday.
The two clubs have been given until 6pm on Wednesday, 13 December, to respond to the FA.
