Everton Triumph Against Man United, Despite Gueye’s Red

November 25, 2025

Idrissa Gueye endured a chaotic evening as the Everton midfielder was dismissed for striking teammate Michael Keane last night, Monday 24 November.

Despite the red card, the 10-man Toffees still battled to a determined 1-0 victory over hosts Manchester United at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, England.

The flashpoint came just 13 minutes into the match when Gueye, frustrated after a misplaced pass, confronted Keane and was pushed away. He responded with a slap to the defender’s face, prompting referee Tony Harrington to send him off for violent conduct.

The 36-year-old Senegal international later apologised to the squad for his actions.

Despite the setback, Everton seized control when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall finished smartly just before the half-hour mark, a goal that ultimately secured the club’s first English Premier League win at Old Trafford since 2013.

Manager David Moyes defended his player’s fiery reaction in the post-match interview, saying: “I like my players fighting each other, if someone didn’t do the right action.”

United boss Ruben Amorim also felt the dismissal was harsh, insisting: “Fighting doesn’t mean that they don’t like each other.”

United’s defeat halted their five-match unbeaten run and underlined Amorim’s belief that his side “need to be perfect to win games”.

Everton, meanwhile, celebrated a win forged in discipline, resilience and no shortage of drama.
