Euro 2016: Prince Charles Backing Wales Against Portugal
His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, has given his best wishes to the Welsh national football team, as they prepare to take on Portugal in the semi-final of the 2016 European Championship this evening.
Wales has done considerably better than neighbours England, who were knocked out of the championship when they lost 2 – 1 to underdogs Iceland in a top 16 game.
In his well wishes, Prince Charles said that Wales’ turn at Euros 2016 thus far has been inspiring:
“…As you prepare for what will be – so far – the most important night in the history of Welsh football, I did just want to send you all my special thoughts and wishes…”Throughout the whole championship, you have set an inspiring example of teamwork and sportsmanship and I have no doubt that in this latest game you will continue to give your country even greater cause for pride,” he said.
He also wished the team good luck in the native Celtic Welsh language:
“…Dymuniadau gorau ichi I gyd,” (“Best wishes to all of you”),” he said.
