England Complete Flawless Campaign with Win in Albania
England closed out their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a hard-earned 2-0 victory over a stubborn Albania side on Sunday, 16 November, securing a flawless run of eight wins without conceding a single goal.
What looked like a formality on paper, quickly became a test of patience at Arena Kombetare
Stadium in Tirana, Albania, with the hosts defending deep and threatening on the break.
Dean Henderson, starting a qualifier for the first time since 2021, produced two vital saves early in the second half, as Albania enjoyed a rare spell of pressure. England, despite dominating possession, struggled to create clear chances and frustration grew until Bukayo Saka’s introduction injected fresh energy into the attack.
Harry Kane ultimately made the difference. His first touch inside the box arrived in the 66th minute, guiding home from close range after Saka’s corner was flicked into his path. Moments later, he rose to head in a superb Marcus Rashford cross, taking his personal tally against Albania to six goals across his England career.
Jude Bellingham’s competitive edge briefly grabbed attention when he reacted to being substituted, but Thomas Tuchel dismissed it, insisting: “That is a decision and he has to accept the decision.”
The win secured a record 11-straight competitive victories for England, rounding off an immaculate qualifying campaign with quiet authority.
