Emmanuel Macron Meets with UN Secretary General

May 17, 2017

Newly elected French president, Emmanuel Macron, has met with United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, in Paris to discuss several issues.

Macron welcomed Guterres to Paris on Tuesday, his second full-day in office.

While the meeting between Macron and Guterres was a closed door meeting, UN chief Guterres did post a picture of the two shaking hands and smiling on his official Twitter account.

He posted a caption alongside the photo saying that the two had discussed various global issues:
“Discussed peace & security, #globalgoals & human rights with @EmmanuelMacron. I look forward to working together on these pressing issues.”

Macron is having a busy first week as president. Today (Wednesday) he travels to Berlin to meet with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

It is presumed that the new French leader will discuss France’s future within the European Union, and how France can work together with other European countries to strengthen the EU, post Brexit.

Macron has also pushed back the announcement of his cabinet by a day.

He was supposed to make the announcement today, but has decided to delay the announcement so that his team can review the financial assets of the cabinet candidates for possible conflicts of interest.
