Emma Watson has been cast in a Disney movie
After the success of Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland, Disney has become obsessed with releasing live-action fairytale films. With Cinderella on the way, there’s currently another fairytale film in the works – Beauty and the Beast.
The live action version of this fairytale already has a director in the form of Bill Condon – the dude behind Dreamgirls and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
The film has finally found its lead in the form of Harry Potter actress Emma Watson who is set to play Belle aka Beauty.
There’s been no word yet on who else has been cast, but Watson has confirmed her casting in the form of a Facebook post:
"I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it." Emma xx
Looks the film will be a musical as Watson has confirmed that she’ll be attending singing lessons.
Disney has made a Beauty and the Beast film in the past but it was an animated version released in 1991. That film was critically acclaimed and went on to be the first animated film to ever receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
