EgyptAir Wreckage Found, Terrorism Suspected
The EgyptAir plane that went missing on Wednesday, has apparently been found in the Mediterranean – albeit it’s wreckage.
Egyptian officials along with French officials have now confirmed that ‘personal effects’ belonging to the passengers on board the doomed flight were found off the coast of egypt this morning.
Egypt’s military confirmed the found wreckage on its Facebook page, saying:
“…Egyptian aircraft and navy vessels have found personal belongings of passengers and parts of the wreckage 290 km north of Alexandria,”
At first it was believed that the aircraft crashed into the ocean close to the Greek islands. Greece’s military then sent in navy vessels to search the area, but announced late yesterday that they were pulling back their vessels.
It was then believed that the aircraft was missing, which then gave the families of the passengers hope.
However, hearts were broken when it was announced that personal items were found among the wreckage.
The debris found will now be examined by top officials from Egypt, France and Britain, as well as experts from Airbus.
In the meanwhile, the Egyptian presidency has expressed its sorrow over the tragic air crash, saying that is is with “deep sadness and extreme regret” that they have to confirm the crash of the aircraft.
All attention will now be turned to what exactly caused the plane to crash into the ocean. And, currently, the leading theory seems to be terrorism.
While nothing has been confirmed, many people – and some country officials – believe that the plane went down due to a terrorist attack. Some are even speculating about a bomb on board the plane.
An Egyptian aviation minister has also bluntly said that a terrorist attack would be a more likely scenario than a mechanical or technical fault of the aircraft.
There has been no official statement for the reason of the crash and investigators and search teams are currently still looking for the black box of the aircraft.
