EgyptAir Crash: Investigators Need 12 Days To Recover Black Boxes

May 30, 2016

Investigators rummaging their way through the wreckage of EgyptAir flight 804 has said that they need at least 12 days to recover the black boxes of the doomed aircraft.

The search for the black boxes of the plane has been the focal point of the investigation, as both Egypt and French officials try to determine what caused the plane to crash into the Mediterranean on May 19th – killing all 66 on board.

It is also imperative that the investigators find the black boxes as soon as possible.

Generally, black boxes have a ‘lifespan’ of around 4 – 5 weeks. Meaning that they have enough battery power to emit signals for 4 – 5 weeks.

The investigators said that they need at least 12 days to retrieve the boxes, as they are currently awaiting a ship to reach them that can retrieve the black boxes from the bottom of the Mediterranean.

Both Egypt and France – who are joint in the investigation – has signed contracts with two French companies, Alseamar and Deep Ocean Search, that specialise in deep water investigation and searches.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the ship from the company was on it’s way to the location of the wreckage:

“…[sic] Those two companies have complementary roles: the first is for locating the pings of the black boxes…while the second is for diving and recovering them…But the DOS specialised ship left the Irish sea on Saturday and it will reach the perceived crash site only in around 12 days, after having the Egyptian and French investigators embark in Alexandria,” the source said.
