Egypt Sends Submarine to Plane Crash Site

May 23, 2016

The Egyptian president, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, has announced that they have sent a submarine to the crash site of EgyptAir Flight-804 that crashed into the Mediterranean on Thursday.

The military also said that the submarine belongs to Egypt’s Oil Ministry and that it will be heading to the site of the crash in the eastern Mediterranean to help assist in the search of the plane’s black box.

The president said that joint efforts are being stepped up by both the Egyptian and French governments to retrieve the black box so that they can finally establish what the cause of the crash was.

“…It is very, very important to us to establish the circumstances that led to the crash of that aircraft,” the Egyptian president said.

He also continued saying that until the black boxes are retrieved, it is impossible to say what led to the crash of the aircraft and he warned the media to stay away from false reporting as to what the cause of the crash could be:

“…There is not one scenario that we can exclusively subscribe to … all scenarios are possible,” he said.

There has been official report as to what could have possibly caused the crash. However, leaked flight data has indicated that there was smoke detected in the cockpit and the lavatories of the plane before it crashed.

This has lead to many suspecting that a bomb could be at play. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

As for the submarine, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said that it has the ability to operate up to 3000 meters below the surface. He also confirmed that the submarine left Egyptian shores for the crash site on Sunday.
