Dusit Hotel Reopens 6 Months After Terror Attack

July 31, 2019

The DusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya will be reopening its doors on Thursday, 1 August, six months after a vicious terrorist attack that befell it on 15 January.

Several Al-Shabab gunmen attacked the area, detonating explosives and killing twenty-one people on that fateful afternoon. Kenyan security forces engaged the Al-Qaeda-linked extremists the following day and stopped the siege after taking down all five militants.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta praised the spirit of the country’s citizens in the wake of the attack in a televised address: “For every act of evil that led to injury, there were a dozen acts of compassion, overflowing patriotism and individual courage.”

The luxury hotel and a nearby office complex were closed down for renovations after the harrowing event. Since then, the hotel has improved its security measures and retrained its staff.

The hotel announced these new measures in a statement on its website, which reads: “In order to reinforce the safety of our guests, we have also enhanced security measures right from the entrance of the 14 Riverside complex.”

Several high-profile guests are expected to visit the hotel during its reopening.
