Drinkwater: Shakespeare Should Be Long Term Leicester Coach
Leicester City’s star midfielder, Danny Drinkwater, has said that he – and many of his teammates – are backing newly appointed interim coach, Craig Shakespeare, to get the job of head coach, permanently.
Shakespeare was appointed as interim head coach of the Foxes in February after the club sacked former manager, Claudio Ranieri.
Shakespeare used to be the assistant coach under Ranieri, so he already has a strong connection with the players.
Speaking to BBC Football, Drinkwater said that he hopes Shakespeare gets offered the job of head coach on a more permanent level.
“On behalf of all the players we’d love to see him get the job long term…We were all very happy to see him get it short term – I’m sure it would be the same reaction longer term,” he said.
Shakespeare has had an impressive start as coach of the Foxes.
Leicester City won their first two consecutive matches with Shakespeare at the helm – a feat they were very proud of, considering they were on the verge of relegation.
While Shakespeare will remain the head coach of Leicester City until the end of the season, there has been no official word as to whether or not he will remain as head coach thereafter.
