Are you drinking too much coffee?

May 19, 2016

We all love ourselves a cuppa Joe everyday – especially as a wake-me-up in the morning. And while a cup or two a day won’t hurt anybody, exceeding that limit can have some negative effects on your body.

Here are just some of the negative effects you can get from drinking too much coffee:

– Increased heartbeat

– Restlessness/Jitters

– Muscle spasms and twitches

– Heart palpitations

– Insomnia

While one or two cups a day can help detox your liver, more than that can cause all of the above and more. Stick to two cups a day and you should be fine.

There are alternatives to coffee that will also give you the wake-up spark that you crave.

One of these is peppermint tea. While peppermint itself has long been praised for it’s incredible health benefits – including fresh breath and healthy, supple skin – peppermint also gives you a bit of a kick when you need it.

There is much less caffeine in peppermint tea then there is in coffee. However, the peppermint will make you more alert and focused, without having to count on caffeine.

If peppermint is not your thing, however, simple rooibos tea with added lemon can also give you the wake up call you need.

Drinking any sort of lemon in the morning is also a good way to kickstart your metabolism.

So go on, alternate between coffee and all the other options and save your body from some serious strain.
