Drew Barrymore Donates to Homeless Fire Chief
Actress Drew Barrymore has generously given $10 000 to a fire chief who lost her house while fighting the flames that have recently engulfed the west coast of north America.
On Monday, 22 September, the “50 First Dates” star left Christiana Rainbow Plews – who is head of the Upper McKenzie Rural Fire Protection District in Blue River, Oregon – in tears when presented with the check.
The 50-year-old chief lost her house while directing volunteers who were battling one of the many blazes nearby.
The 45-year-old host displayed the goodwill on her television programme, “The Drew Barrymore Show”, and told Plews how she was an “inspiration to us all.”
Barrymore said: “Thank you, Chief Rainbow, for being the example to us all.”
Through tears, Plews explained how the rural town of Blue River had been devastated by the conflagration – destroying homes, local businesses and the fire station.
The fire chief also explained how she has to be strong for everyone nearby: “Somebody has to lead, and somebody has to help get the healing and rebuilding process started … I just have to do it for everyone else and hopefully we can all find our way.”
