DRC Clashes: 23 Dead

Various sources have confirmed that violent clashes that took place over the weekend in the DRC has left as many as 23 people dead, with various others injured.

According to the deputy governor of the Kasai province – where the violent clashed took place – the clashed broke out over tribal rivalry in the area.

Besides the two opposing tribes, the province’s security forces, which included police and military troops, also got involved in the clashes, which in turn escalated the situation.

Other sources have stated that the fighting between the tribes broke out due to differences between the newly appointed traditional chief and his uncle.

According to an interior ministry official, the chief’s uncle wanted to seize power from his nephew.

The fighting lasted from Friday to Sunday. It is believed that at least 13 people from the rival groups were killed, with 14 others injured.
