English Premier League clubs concluded a chaotic mid-year transfer window on Tuesday, 1 September, punctuated by high-profile departures, substantial expenditures, and record-breaking moves.
Manchester City dominated headlines by completing a joint-British transfer record £125 million acquisition of midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea. This move completed a midfield restructuring exceeding £300 million under manager Enzo Maresca, which also saw Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye join the champions for £65 million.
In response, Everton secured Jack Grealish on a season-long loan alongside Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Chelsea experienced significant squad turnover. Alongside Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo moved to Tottenham Hotspur. Supporting Mudryk’s move, his former Shakhtar Donetsk manager Roberto De Zerbi suggested the player “has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or”.
