Diaz joins Bayern in £65.5m deal

July 30, 2025

Luis Diaz has completed a £65.5-million move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, ending a successful three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.

The 28-year-old Colombian winger – who joined from Porto in January 2022 for £37.5 million – departs with four major trophies to his name, including last season’s English Premier League (EPL) title.

Diaz made an immediate impression under Jurgen Klopp, scoring six goals and providing four assists in his first half-season as Liverpool chased an unprecedented quadruple trophy haul. He started both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals in 2022, which the Reds won on penalties against Chelsea.

Liverpool twice tried to extend his contract, but with two years remaining and Diaz expressing a desire to leave, the club accepted Bayern’s improved offer after initially rejecting a lower bid. Barcelona were also interested, but the Bundesliga giants ultimately secured his signature.

On Wednesday, 30 July, Diaz reflected on his exit and shared on Instagram: “It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled and, most of all, to be leaving a champion.”

Liverpool have so far generated over £130 million in sales this summer and remain keen on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, having previously made an informal approach for the Swedish forward.
