Dele Alli Struck by Bottle During Spurs-Arsenal Clash

December 20, 2018

Tottenham Hotspur coach, Maurizio Pochettino, has demanded Arsenal to step up and take responsibility after one of his players, Dele Alli, was struck by a plastic bottle thrown by a Gunners fan.

The 22-year-old was struck on the side of his head in the 73rd minute of their Football League Cup match against Arsenal on Wednesday, 19 December.

In response, he made a ‘2-0’ gesture towards the crowd – referring to the scoreline – before being led away by captain Harry Kane. The Spurs went on to gain a 2-0 victory over Arsenal.

Although Alli appeared unharmed and shrugged off the incident, Pochettino called on the Gunners to find the culprit.

Speaking after the game, the Spurs coach said: “I cannot talk in general because only one stupid person made a mistake … I hope that Arsenal take responsibility … through the camera, they can identify [the person responsible] because it wasn’t a problem, but it could be a big issue.”

Seven arrests were made at the game for public order offences.
