Dejan Lovren Backs Liverpool in Upcoming Clashes

January 05, 2017

Croatian national and Liverpool defender, Dejan Lovren has expressed his optimism regarding the upcoming battles that Liverpool will face this month. Even though they drew two all with Sunderland on Monday at the Stadium of Light, Liverpool is not disheartened.

According to Lovren, the Merseyside club will continue in their attempt to chase down Chelsea for the Premier League title with key fixtures in January against Manchester City and other leaders.

Liverpool are currently second on the table, just five points behind Chelsea and Monday’s draw has been seen by many as a missed opportunity to close the gap. According to Lovren, “[i]t felt like a defeat, especially after beating Manchester City…but we have to keep our heads high. A point is better than nothing.”

After snatching victory from title contenders such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City earlier this season, Lovren is confident that his team’s mentality can keep them in the hunt:

“There is still half a season to go. There are so many games in front of us and in front of Chelsea. We just have to concentrate on ourselves…We have some really big games in front of us. I’d say we like to play against the big teams. There’s a lot to play for.”

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to face The Red Devils, currently in sixth place, with five points separating the sides on January 15 before hosting Chelsea on January 31.
