De Ligt Agent Claims Fake News Doing Rounds
Several reports suggesting that Matthijs de Ligt has declined an offer from FC Barcelona in order to accept a lucrative deal from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are nothing more than gossip, according to his agent.
The rumours have been circulating across Europe since Tuesday, 11 June, with several news outlets suggesting that the 19-year-old defender is close to signing up with the Ligue 1 champions.
Mino Raiola, de Ligt’s agent, confirmed that there is no agreement with PSG, and denies knowing the journalist who spread the news.
He said: “This is the classic example of fake news. The photograph of me and the French journalist in Paris? He asked me to take a picture together, but I did not know who this gentleman was. I have never spoken with him.”
This is not the first time the in-demand Ajax captain has been the subject of rumours and speculation. Another rumour currently circulating is that Manchester City are looking to bag Harry Maguire over de Ligt, due to Pep Guardiola’s ongoing feud with the latter’s agent.
