David Wagner Leaves Huddersfield in the Lurch

January 15, 2019

Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town announced that David Wagner vacated his position as manager of the struggling club by mutual consent.

Wagner, who had been in charge of the Terriers since November 2015, led the club into the top flight in 2016-17 for the first time in 45 years after winning the Championship play-off final against Reading.

Now – under the 47-year-old German’s stewardship – they currently rank 20th in the Premier League standings with 11 points, having won only two games out of 22 matches this season.

Huddersfield chairman, David Hoyle, thanked Wagner in a statement posted on the club’s Twitter account on Monday, 14 January.

He added: “As I had said previously, I had no intention of sacking [Wagner] this season. Subsequently [Wagner] – being the great man he is – came to us and made it clear that he needs a break from the rigours of football management.”

Hoyle also confirmed that coach Mark Hudson will lead Huddersfield for their next game against Manchester City this Sunday, 20 January.
