Darwin Nunez Inches Closer to Saudi League Move

August 07, 2025

Al-Hilal have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Darwin Nunez, with only personal terms left to finalise.

Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a club-record €85 million, has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances; however, his form has been inconsistent lately. Despite interest from Juventus, Milan and Napoli, he now appears open to a Middle Eastern transfer.

The deal, valued at around €70 million, marks a major step in the Saudi Pro League giants’ pursuit of top-tier European talent.

Former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, now at the helm of the Saudi club, has identified the 26-year-old forward as his primary summer target following failed attempts to sign Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Nunez’s departure would free up funds and squad space for the Reds to intensify their pursuit of Isak, having already signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. With Nunez’s arrival imminent, striker Aleksandar Mitrovic could also leave Al-Hilal as the club looks to reshape its attack.

As the talks with the Uruguayan international wrap up, both parties stand to benefit from a camp shake-up that will see forward lines beefed up and much-needed changes in the guard take place.
