Danny Willett Wins Masters

April 11, 2016

In what was perhaps the most shocking Masters event in recent history, Englishman Danny Willett has walked away with the coveted green jacket and champion of the Masters.

However, while Willett didn’t have a particularly bad performance – or a particularly good one for that matter – it was all thanks to a complete breakdown by defending champion, Jordan Spieth, that Willet walked away as champion.

Willet scored a five-under par 67 for a three-shot victory.

However, Jordan Spieth, who looked confident and ready to win another masters in the first 9 of the game, completely dropped the ball in the second nine.

At one point, Willet was five down to Spieth with six holes to play.

Spieth had a monumental breakdown with bogeys at 10 and 11 and a quadruple bogey at the par-3 12th.

Willett on the other hand managed birdie the par-5 13th, par-4 14th and par-3 16th.

“…[sic] It’s crazy. It’s surreal..Words can’t describe the emotions and feelings. You do something special and it still doesn’t quite sink in what you have achieved,” the 28-year old said after his win.

He continued saying that his putting efforts definitely helped him:

“…it was a very surreal day when I look back at the ebbs and flows…I was able to make a couple of good putts and here I am,” he said.

As for Spieth, he had nothing much to day but that it just wasn’t his day and sometimes, these things just happen:

“…It’s tough. It’s really tough…Just put a bad swing on it right at the wrong time. Just compounded mistakes. Just lack of discipline,”

Spieth was, however, applauded for being graceful even in this mammoth loss.

Willett now walks away with not only the coveted green jacket, but also the  $1.8 million top prize from the $10 million purse.
