Dalai Lama “Doing Much Better” after Hospitalisation
Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is in a stable condition after he was hospitalised with a chest infection on Tuesday, 9 April.
Reports say that the 83-year-old Buddhist monk – who has been living in permanent exile in Dharamshala, India, after fleeing Tibet 60 years ago – had returned home after attending a recent meeting with youth leaders in New Delhi.
However, after complaining about feeling “some discomfort” in his chest, the Dalai Lama was flown to a hospital located in New Delhi. It was later diagnosed as a chest infection.
Tenzin Taklha, the Dalai Lama’s personal spokesperson, confirmed that the spiritual leader was being treated for his ailment.
He explained: “His Holiness is doing much better, but he is still undergoing treatment at a hospital, and we hope in a few days he will be discharged.”
In recent years, the Dalai Lama has been forced to cut down on attending global events and meeting world leaders, due to factors such as age, ill health and exhaustion.
