Crystal Palace’s Europa League Qualification on the Line

June 03, 2025

Officials from Crystal Palace are set to meet with UEFA representatives today, Tuesday 3 June, to discuss the English club’s eligibility in the upcoming Europa League season.

Nearly three weeks ago, the Eagles defeated Manchester City 1-0 to win the FA Cup. This victory ensured their automatic qualification for the 2025/26 Europa League.

However, UEFA’s rules also dictate that two teams owned by the same entity are prohibited from participating in the same European competition.

As of writing, American businessman John Textor owns a significant 43% stake in Palace; additionally, he is the principal shareholder of French outfit, Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League. This could create a potential conflict of interest for the two clubs.

It will be up to Palace officials to present their case to UEFA at the latter’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland and demonstrate that they can comply with the regulations, specifically by proving that both clubs do not share the same resources or personnel.
