Cristiano Sets New Record
Cristiano Ronaldo has continued his excellent Champions League season by setting a new record.
The 32-year-old star scored two goals for Real Madrid against Apoel on Tuesday night, helping his club to demolish the other side 6-0.
The two strikes have brought the Portuguese international’s total for the 2017/18 European campaign to eight goals, in five group stage matches.
Overall, he has now scored a whopping 18 Champions League goals in 2017, breaking his own record of 16 from 2015.
This record was previously held by Barca’s Lionel Messi, who scored 13 Champions League goals in 2012.
The record comes as good news for the star, who has had a difficult season, suffering his worst ever start to a La Liga campaign.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane praised Ronaldo, and his teammate Karim Benzema. He said: “We knew it was going to happen, that their goals would come. Now they have to keep working like this.”
