Cricket Zimbabwe Announces Makhaya Ntini as Assistant Coach

Cricket Zimbabawe officially revealed their new assistant coach for the first time on Wednesday.

Legendary South African cricketer, Makhaya Ntini, has been officially appointed as the new assistant coach to the Zimbabwean National cricket team.

At a special press conference held at Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club, Zimbabwe Cricket, introduced Ntini to the press in hos new role as assistant coach.

Tavengwa Mukuhlan, chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, said that they were delighted to add a star player such as Makhaya to their technical team and that Ntini’s insights will help nurture the national team’s efforts on an international level:

“…As Makhaya joins our technical team, led by veteran head coach Dav Whatmore, we are proud to highlight the fact that the incredible Mdingi Express shares quite a lot of attributes with us: hard work, the quest for perfection and the nothing-is-impossible spirit,” he told a room full journalists.

Ntini also said that he was excited to join the Zimbabwean cricket team and that he was looking forward to helping develop the skills of the players:

“…When I retired in 2011, I opened up a school of excellence which is coaching youngsters in rural (areas) whereby you tend to get them to understand the future (that lies ahead) for sportspeople and getting them to be part of cricket…Playing international and playing for your provincial (side) is not just milking the cow, you need to make sure you feed the cow for the cow to produce the milk. That’s one of the things that I think I will really powerfully drive in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Makhaya is said to start his post on Tuesday.
