Cooking With Coffee

April 25, 2016

As strange as it might sound, the latest craze taking foodies and coffee lovers by storm, is cooking with coffee. In stews, on steaks in deserts – coffee is literally everywhere. And that’s ok, because it really is quite a delicious addition to a meal.

Now while adding coffee to deserts isn’t quite such a new idea, adding coffee to savoury dishes is. The first recipe we’ll introduce you too is actually quite delicious: Coffee Crusted Steak

You will need:

Steak (your choice of which cut; sirloin, rump, fillet)

Ground Coffee (any coffee you prefer)

Butter

Olive Oil

Salt

Pepper

Start by sprinkling the steaks with salt and pepper and let them rest for 4 – 5 minutes. Then, sprinkle them with a generous amount of ground coffee. Try to cover them completely on both sides.

Then, heat a frying pan to a medium heat. Add the butter and olive oil and stir until the butter melts and turn a brownish colour.

Then start frying the steak. Fry the steak for approximately 3 – 4 minutes on each side for a medium rare and 4 – 5 minutes for a medium to well done steak.

Once they are done let them rest for a few minutes, sprinkle with salt again and serve!
