Colombian Cargo Plane Crash Leaves 5 Dead
On Tuesday night in Eastern Colombia, a cargo plane carrying 6 crew members, crashed approximately three minutes after take off, according to officials. The Boeing 727, which was bound for Bogota from Puerto Carreno, crashed at approximately 5:30PM local time, leaving five dead and the sole survivor critically injured.
The surviving flight technician was rushed to hospital upon discovery of the wreckage and is being flown to the capital Bogota for intensive treatment.
Those who perished in the crash include the pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer and dispatcher.
According to sources, mobile phone videos captured the plane almost crashing into a group of watchers as it struggled to gain altitude, and then exploding upon impact with the ground.
The cause of the crash is yet unknown, according to a civil aviation spokesperson, but investigators are working hard to uncover the root cause of this tragedy.
