Cocktails for every season

May 26, 2016

Even though winter is upon us, that doesn’t mean that we have to settle for red wine and whiskey to curb the cold. You can still have a cocktail (even if the sun isn’t shining as bright) and pretend you’re somewhere on a sunny island.

Here are three of our favourite must-try cocktails for any day, week or season!

  1. Strawberry Mojitos

A sweet twist on an all-time favourite. Makes 8 cocktails.

You will need:

2 limes

handful of Mint leaves

7 strawberries

1 cup white sugar

1 cup white rum/gin

2 cups lemonade

Squeeze both the limes into a jug. Then, throw the squeezed lime peels into the jug along with the mint leaves and strawberries and cup of sugar.

Then, mix the fruits with a handheld blender until they are broken up into smaller pieces.

Then add the rum or gin along with the lemonade. Allow to cool for 30 minutes in the fridge and then serve. Add extra, fresh mint leaves when serving.

  1. G&T with a twist

Gin and Tonic is the ultimate, classy cocktail. This one, a signature of Gordon Ramsay, is just as delicious.

You will need:

50ml of gin

25ml tonic water

25ml cranberry juice

1 lemon wedge

Pour ice into a tall glass.  Then, start by adding the gin, followed by the tonic and then lastly the cranberry juice. Mix well together until your cocktail has a pinkish hue.

Add the lemon wedge and serve. Simple and delicious.

  1. Mai Tai

A Mai Tai is the ‘it’ cocktail of the moment. It’s spicy and sexy and perfect for sipping in the sun.

You will need:

50ml of Jamaican Rum (or any other rum, really)

25 ml orange liqueur

Orgeat syrup

1 – 2 drops vanilla essence

1 large lime

Squeeze the juice of the lime into a shaker and then add the drops of vanilla essence and orange liqueur as well as the Orgeat syrup.

Then, add the rum and shake for approximately 20 seconds. Serve over crushed ice in a tumbler glass.
