Cocaine Kingpin Arrested in Mozambique
A Brazilian drug kingpin who has been on the run for more than two decades has been arrested in Mozambique.
According to reports, Gilberto Aparecido dos Santos – also known as “Fuminho” – is believed to be the leader of the First Capital Command (PCC), an infamous Sao Paulo-based gang known for trafficking cocaine across the globe.
Using his immense influence to evade authorities, Fuminho arrived in Mozambique last month.
Per a statement from the Brazilian police – who worked alongside Interpol and US drug officials – the 49-year-old was arrested at the Montebelo Indy, a luxury hotel in the capital city of Maputo.
Police seized a fake Brazilian passport, 100 grams of cannabis, 15 mobile phones and a car, as well as cash equivalent to about $800 in Mozambican and South African currency.
Two Nigerian nationals, suspected of being Fuminho’s accomplices, were also arrested at the hotel.
Whether or not the alleged drug baron will be extradited to Brazil and put on trial is not yet known.
