City Snap at Arsenal’s Heels After Thrashing Crystal Palace
Phil Foden inspired Manchester City to a vital 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, 13 May, moving the defending champions within two points of English Premier League (EPL) leaders Arsenal.
Making his first league start since March, the 25-year-old midfielder reached a historic landmark of 100 EPL goal involvements with a pair of sublime first-half assists.
During a post-match interview with reporters, Pep Guardiola hailed his star playmaker’s talents: “I am beyond happy and satisfied. Phil, we know his qualities. I appreciate him a lot. Incredible runner and fighter.”
Despite a season characterised by injuries and a lack of consistent minutes, Foden’s performance – creating five chances in the first half alone – reminded critics of his superb award-winning form from 2024.
While the win keeps the pressure on Arsenal, Guardiola remains realistic, noting that the title race depends on the Gunners staying perfect in their next two games.
City’s focus now shifts to Wembley for the Football Association Cup final against Chelsea this weekend, where Guardiola will look to secure a domestic cup double. For Foden, the performance serves as a timely audition for Thomas Tuchel’s England FIFA World Cup squad, to be named later this month.
