City Humble United as Pressure Mounts on Amorim

Manchester United’s troubles have deepened after a bruising 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday, 14 September, leaving them with just four points from their opening four English Premier League (EPL) games.

Phil Foden headed in the opener at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, after Jeremy Doku skipped past United midfielder Luke Shaw in the 18th minute. Doku again provided the assist for Erling Haaland to double City’s lead early in the second half at the 53rd-minute mark.

Haaland then broke clear to add a third, sealing a comfortable victory for Pep Guardiola’s side in the 68th minute and lifting them into the top half of the EPL table.

United’s defending came under heavy criticism, not least from their own captain.

“We conceded three goals that should have been avoided,” admitted Bruno Fernandes, who lamented his side’s lack of control during the post-match interview.

Full-back Noussair Mazraoui was equally blunt, calling the performance “not good enough” for the occasion.

Man United manager Ruben Amorim – who is already under major scrutiny – accepted responsibility for the club’s worst start to an EPL season in over three decades.

“I understand the frustration and I understand the decisions that come with that,” he said.

Many believe that if the club faces another defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, 20 September, it could spark big questions about the Portuguese coach’s future.
