Christian Benteke Scores Fastest Goal in WC History
Belgian international, Christian Benteke, has scored the fastest goal in Soccer World Cup history, after he managed to net the ball within the first 7-seconds of Belgium’s World Cup qualifying game against Gibraltar.
In what was one of the most talked about moments in the recent World Cup qualifiers, Benteke raced towards the goal as soon as the whistle went, leaving the Gibraltar defense scattered all over, and even more so goalkeeper Deren Ibrahim, and netted the first goal of the game.
The 7-second goal replaces the previous record, held by Davide Gualtieri of San Marino in a World Cup qualifying match against England in November 1993, of 8.3-seconds.
Benteke’s goal is faster than any World Cup match goal ever – including the finals – where the fastest goal in a final was within 10.8 seconds.
It was scored by Hakan Sukur of Turkey in their match against South Korea.
Benteke certainly had a fantastic game, as he then went on to score a hat trick for Belgium, as they completely destroyed Gibraltar with 6 goals to 0.
