Chinese President Arrives In Zim

December 04, 2015

China’s president, President Xi Jinping, arrived in Zimbabwe today and was welcomed with open arms by President Robert Mugabe.

This is the first time a Chinese leader has visited Zimbabwe since 1996.

Many believe that President Xi Jinping is here to sign various deals with Zimbabwe and Mugabe. These deals are rumoured to be investments in electricity generation, infrastructure of the country and more.

Since Zimbabwe has had strained relations with the West, the country under Mugabe’s leadership has reached out to China more and more.

In addition to reportedly singing deals with Zimbabwe to help the country’s infrastructure, it is also believed that China’s Import and Export Bank will loan Harare more than $1 billion to fund the 600 megawatt (MW) expansion of Hwange coal power station.

Jinping will travel to South Africa after his visit to Zimbabwe.
