Chelsea’s Marco Ianni Charged with Improper Conduct
Chelsea assistant coach, Marco Ianni, has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association (FA), following an altercation with Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho.
After midfielder Ross Barkley scored a 96th-minute goal to secure the Blues a 2-2 draw on Saturday, Ianni celebrated in front of the Red Devils’ bench.
This led to a visibly incensed Mourinho leaping off the bench and being held back by security personnel as he attempted to chase Ianni down the tunnel.
Despite both Ianni and Chelsea head coach, Maurizio Sarri, apologising to Mourinho, the FA revealed in a statement that it is moving forward with charging Ianni.
The governing body also said in the statement: “In relation to this incident, Jose Mourinho has been formally reminded of his responsibilities, whilst both clubs have received similar official reminders in terms of the behaviour expected of their staff and players at all times whilst in the technical area.”
Ianni has until 18:00 this Thursday, 24 October, to respond to the charge.
