Chelsea Thrash Arsenal Raw with 4-1 Win
Chelsea claimed its second-ever Europa League title after demolishing Arsenal 4-1 in the final on Wednesday evening, 29 May.
Fans at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan watched as the Blues took their London rivals to the limit before mercilessly thrashing them in a goal-filled second half.
Chelsea star, Olivier Giroud, gave his team the lead by netting a header in the 49th minute. Ten minutes later, team-mate Eden Hazard set up the ball for Pedro Rodriguez, who brought the score up to 2-0.
Ultimately, however, the Blues brought home the spectacular victory, after Hazard pulled off two goals – including a penalty shot – in the 65th and 72nd minutes.
Chelsea will now go on to face either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool in this summer’s UEFA Super Cup, which sees the Europa League and Champions League winners playing against one another in August.
For their loss, the Gunners – whose only goal was scored by Alex Iwobi in the 69th minute – no longer qualify for next season’s Champions League after a fifth-place finish in the English Premier League.
