Chelsea Brace for Fine After 74 FA Charges
Chelsea are facing 74 charges from the Football Association (FA) for alleged breaches of agent and third-party investment regulations during Roman Abramovich’s ownership.
The case centres on transactions between 2009 and 2022, with most incidents said to have taken place from 2010 to 2016.
Deals involving Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o and Willian are understood to be part of the investigation, though there is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the players themselves. The charges relate to undisclosed payments to agents, use of unregistered intermediaries and agreements giving third parties influence over the club’s policies.
The Blues self-reported the matters after the Todd Boehly-led consortium purchased the club in 2022, handing over files to the FA, UEFA and the English Premier League (EPL). The club said it had shown “unprecedented transparency” and expressed gratitude to the FA for its engagement.
While the independent commission has the power to impose sporting sanctions, including a points deduction, sources suggest the outcome is likely to mirror the €10-million fine handed down by UEFA last year for incomplete financial reporting.
Chelsea have until next Friday, 19 September, to respond, while the EPL’s separate inquiry continues.
