Chelsea Appoint New Manager

May 30, 2023

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has officially been appointed as Chelsea’s new manager.

The Blues shared the news via their official website on Monday, 29 May, along with a sincere welcome from the club’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley: “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward.

“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate,” they added.

The 51-year-old Argentine will begin his two-year contract on 1 July, with an option to extend for another year, if both parties agree.

Pochettino has a difficult task ahead of him as he succeeds Graham Potter, who was dismissed from his position at the beginning of April after less than seven months in charge. Frank Lampard has been standing in as the interim boss over the last two months.

The Blues have also had a dismal 2022/23 season, finding themselves in 12th place on the English Premier League table – their lowest finish in over 25 years.
