Catherine O’Hara Honoured by Actor Awards
On Sunday night, 1 March, the entertainment world paused to honour a legend as Catherine O’Hara was posthumously awarded the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
O’Hara, who passed away on January 30, 2026, at age 71, earned the accolade for her role as studio executive Patty Leigh in the Apple TV+ satire The Studio.
Her co-star and the show’s co-creator, Seth Rogen, accepted the trophy on her behalf, sparking a tearful standing ovation at the Shrine Auditorium.
Rogen revealed that O’Hara remained a tireless perfectionist until the very end, frequently emailing him rewritten scenes the night before filming.
“Literally 100 per cent of the time, it made not just her character better, but it made the scene better and the entire show better as a whole,” Rogen shared.
Reflecting on her legacy, Rogen told the audience, “She really showed that you can be a genius and be kind, and one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other.”
He concluded with a plea for future generations to study her comedic brilliance: “Tell the people, as they are laughing, that that’s Catherine O’Hara, and we were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generously shared her talents with us.”
The win marks the first time a female performer has received a posthumous individual honour in the guild’s history.
O’Hara is most famously known for her performances in Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Home Alone.
